Vettaikaran is Vijay’s 49th film and it is being directed by Babu Shivan, an assistant director of Dharani. The film is produced by M. Balasubramanian and B. Gurunath Meiyappan and will be distributed by AVM Productions. The film will star Vijay and Anushka Shetty in the lead roles. The film’s background score and soundtrack will be composed by Vijay Antony while Gopinath will be the film’s main cinematographer and V. T. Vijayan as the film’s editor.

Filming for Vettaikkaaran began on March 9, 2009 The filming took place in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh where film’s title song was choreographed and filmed with Vijay, his son and 90 junior artists. The tight first schedule was completed in Andhra. The second schedule of shooting of the film was in Chennai. A stunt sequence was filmed a couple of days back in Alwarpet and adjacent areas. An action scene involving Vijay was choreographed along with stunt artists.
